In brief: Brendan O’Neill – we’re too policed

Heard today on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour from Brendan O’Neill, editor of sp!ked online. Paraphrased:

Feminism isn’t about ending oppression any longer. It’s about policing men; what they say, how they act, etc. If it was still about ending oppression, it would have my full backing but it’s about policing men now.

Unfortunately, he had the last word with the above in the interview. Male privilege much? The interview was about street harassment for crying out loud! Does O’Neill not realise that any ‘policing’ that’s going on is in direct response to the very same harassment and objectification that has been part of the systematic oppression of women for years? Clearly he doesn’t for he’s feeling very sorry for himself and all the other poor menz out there who, apparently, aren’t allowed to open their mouths any more. As if!
